Current Research:
Our laboratory studies the cellular mechanisms that control pancreatic cell function and dysfunction. Current projects include: 1) Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer deaths in the US. We are examining gene expression, using microarray technology, and protein expression, using several proteomic approaches, in order to develop biomarkers for early detection and diagnosis of pancreatic cancer as well as to discover new targets for therapy 2) Acute pancreatitis is a disease that involves pancreatic inflammation, edema, and necrosis and that can lead to cancer. we have identified several genes that are expressed early in the development of this inflammatory disease and are investigating their roles in the disease using animal models and adenoviral mediated gene delivery.
