Cellular
and Molecular Basis of Systems
and Integrative Biology:
How
to Apply
Appointment
of new students to the Training Grant will be made by the Operating
Committee, based on a procedure in which the student and the mentor
each submit a letter. Student letters should describe their research
interests and indicate how they relate to the goals of this training
program, the mentor and co-mentor they plan to work with, and their
willingness to meet the requirements
of the training grant, i.e., courses, participation in annual poster
day, student lunches with seminar speakers. The mentor's letter
should indicate why the student is appropriate for the Training
Grant, agreement to having the student meet the requirements of
the program, and agreement to provide financial support to the student
after Training Grant funding is finished. Normally students are
considered after their first year, and Training Grant support is
for the second and third year of graduate study. However, support
in other years and for differing periods can be considered. Decisions
will be made on the basis of the student's goals and how they match
with the training program's goals: to prepare students to use cellular
and molecular techniques to answer questions in systems and integrative
biology.
Consideration
of nominations normally takes place in Spring and a call for nominations
will be sent out to the training faculty each year. Training slots
can begin July 1st or September 1st, but open slots can be filled
at any time.
